Above the village of Yvorne in the district of Aigle lies the municipality of Corbeyrier with a population of 420. It comprises 4 hamlets: Vers Crot, Luan, Boveau and Les Agites. From 920m at Ovaille in the lower village, the municipality reaches its highest point of 2205m at Chaux-de-Mont.
The first mention of Corbeyrier village comes in 1261, then referred to as « Curbiriaco ». By the end of the XIIIth century it becomes « Curbirie », then « Corberier » in 1577 according to the Berne Republic map before eventually becoming Corbeyrier. It’s actually a great place to live today with lots of organised events for locals and visitors.
A network of walking trails meander in and around Corbeyrier, Luan and the surrounding mountains offering wonderful opportunities for a day’s hike during which you can link up with public transport for parts of the trip and for the return.
The most famous event is of course Corbeyrier’s Celtic Festival organised by the « Confrérie du Loup » (Wolf Brotherhood) every 2 years. As summer approaches the ambiance feels more akin to that of a village in Brittany. Festivalgoers drink mead and sing and dance until the early hours.
